Dunnington Motor Care Ltd are proud to stand apart from other traditional garages in York, believe that independent garages can provide a much more affordable alternative to expensive main dealers for hybrid and electrical vehicle servicing and maintenance.

Servicing any PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is very different from servicing and repairing a diesel or petrol vehicle.

Despite there being many common components, there is an added element of high voltage electricity that a traditional car doesn't have. One stray wire and this electricity could be passing through your vehicle's chassis.

Dunnington Motor Care Ltd proudly invest in the future, by ensuring that our mechanics are fully qualified in the most recent vehicle technologies and developments.

We are able to provide a full-service option for our customers in Yorkshire. You can now save money by choosing an independent garage with specialist investment and capabilities.

Our technicians are trained and certified to specifically work with electric and hybrid cars. This includes working with high voltage systems, hybrid engines, electrical motors, power inverter systems, energy & fuel management hardware systems, battery regeneration braking systems (e.g. KERS), electric control propulsion systems and much more.

The majority of what you will find in the workings of an electric car is the battery. There are a vast array of power cells that will make an electric car run. They are large, heavy and complicated.

They don't require much day-to-day maintenance, but as you will appreciate from the use of phones, tablets or laptops, battery memory will; reduce over time.

This means that the ability for the battery to hold charge decreases as it ages and the range will become shorter. It is therefore important to ensure all electrical systems (especially recharging systems) are working as efficiently as possible and any electric drains are diagnosed and eliminated quickly.

It's true that in a diesel or petrol vehicle's combustion engine (and the associated systems that come with it) have hundreds of moving parts, compared to about half a dozen in an electric motor.

This means that traditional cars have more parts to suffer wear and tear and therefore need replacing over time. It also means more things can go wrong.

However, when it comes to servicing electric and hybrid cars, the focus needs to be on safety and the quick and efficient diagnosis of electrical systems.

Servicing an electric car is more about ensuring that your car is drivable and preserving the lifetime (and range) of your car over the coming years. Our diagnostic tools and specifically trained technicians are quick to diagnose issues hidden within the complexities of the modern systems introduced by hybrid and electric car technology.

This ensures that you are not paying extra for labour rates and you know that you are getting the most out of your investment in the environment.
